Naseby vistor centre wins approval

The Naseby Battlefield Memorial

A permanent education centre near to the site of the Battle of Naseby has come a step closer, after plans to build a visitor centre were approved ...

Daventry District Council had been advised to reject the proposals as it would spoil the view of the battlefield. However, councillors decided that the benefits to education and tourism outweighed any detrimental effects.

The Naseby Battlefield Project, which has drawn up the plans, was set up in 2007 as a registered charity to preserve and protect the English Heritage Registered Battlefield in Northamptonshire.

The planned site will be adjacent to the south of the battlefield, just north of the A14. The centre has been designed to be sympathetic to its surroundings, and will be a 'Living History Centre' in line with the Project's educational aims.

Work to design the appearance of the centre's structure and content is ongoing.

  1. Great idea, and should have been done earlier. We don't do enough in this country to look after the historic sites we have. all the best.
