Christie Crawfurd Collection exhibition in Stow-on-the-Wold (Apr - Oct 2013)

The Death of a Cavalier's Wife, by Eugene Sibendt, 1919.

A major collection of English Civil War paintings are going on display this spring ...

The Captain Christie Crawfurd Collection will go on display in Stow-on-the-Wold (Gloucestershire) in St Edwards Hall, Stow-on-the-Wold, on the first Thursday of each month from 10.30am - 2.30pm, from 4 April to October 2013.

The collection was given to the town by Captain Christie Crawfurd (1859–1948), who also collected English Civil War books and armour. Mostly portraits of prominent royals, commanders, politicians and clergymen associated with the English Civil War, the collection also features a number of Victorian depictions of the conflict.

Many of the paintings can be viewed online as part of the BBC's 'Your Paintings' collection.

You can find more English Civil War exhibitions, talks, walks and re-enactments on the Events page.
