Upcoming English Civil War events

The Charles I commemoration, Horse Guard's Parade, January 2012.

Though the main re-enactment season takes place between spring and autumn, that doesn't mean pikemen and musketeers aren't out there braving the cold ...

Two large events that traditionally take place every January are coming up towards the end of the month.

  • The Holly Holy Day commemoration in Nantwich celebrates the battle of 1644, and number of events are planned around the town.
  • The parade of the King's Army in London, commemorating the execution of Charles I in 1649 (see photos from 2012).

Also in London are a couple of exhibitions which fans of 17th century might be interested in:

  • Treason, Plots and Murder (National Portrait Gallery, until 16 Feb)
  • The Cheapside Hoard: London's Lost Jewels (Museum of London, until 27 Apr).

Further details about the events above - and more - can be seen on the Events 2014 page.
