Here's the first still from A Field in England, the upcoming English Civil War film from director Ben Wheatley. His previous features include the horror Kill List and the comedy horror Sightseers. So what should we expect from this one?

The Film 4 blog describes the film, which was shot on location near Farnham in September and October last year, as a 'psychedelic trip into magic and madness'. The synopsis continues:

England: 1648 AD. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O'Neil and Cutler. O'Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.
Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

Not exactly Cromwell then!

As well as Smiley the film also stars the League of Gentlemen's Reece Sheersmith and the Mighty Boosh'Julian Barratt.

The still above's also being used in the posterIMBD lists the film as being in post-production, so it looks like it will be released by the end of 2013.
